Coastal Compliance

Florida Turtle Code
window film.

If your home or business sits along the Southwest Florida coast, turtle-friendly lighting compliance isn't optional — it's the law. We install specialized window films that help beachfront properties meet local sea turtle protection ordinances without living in the dark.

Why It Matters

Protecting SWFL's
sea turtles.

Southwest Florida is home to some of the most important sea turtle nesting beaches in the country. Loggerhead, green, and leatherback turtles return to our shores each year to nest — but artificial light from coastal properties disrupts their natural behavior, endangering both mothers and hatchlings.

Seasonal Compliance

Turtle-friendly lighting rules apply from May 1 through October 31 each year across most SWFL coastal communities.

Light Wavelength

Sea turtles are most sensitive to short-wavelength light. Amber and red light sources (under 540 nanometers) are least disruptive to nesting turtles and hatchlings.

Shielding & Film

Light fixtures must be shielded and directed downward, and windows visible from the beach must use turtle-compliant film or coverings to prevent interior light escape.

Protecting Hatchlings

Newly hatched turtles instinctively move toward the brightest horizon. Artificial light draws them inland instead of toward the Gulf, which is why compliance matters.

The Solution

How window film
helps you comply.

Turtle-compliant window films are engineered to reduce the wavelengths of visible light that disrupt sea turtles, while still allowing comfortable interior visibility. Applied to windows visible from the beach, they help contain interior light and bring your property into compliance.

For full compliance, we often pair turtle film with amber LED bulbs and proper fixture shielding — a complete solution that keeps your space livable and protects nesting turtles.
